General Education Teacher with Special Education Degree

The General Education Teacher with a Special Education Degree is entrusted with providing academic support, managing scholars' testing needs, documenting course completion, and fostering opportunities for life skills growth. This role necessitates close collaboration with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues to ensure the delivery of high-quality education and to maintain a positive learning environment. 

Responsibilities: 

Provide Academic Support: 

  • Deliver instruction aligned with subject area curriculum and instructional strategies. 

  • Develop and execute individualized learning plans for students with diverse needs. 

  • Employ various instructional techniques and resources to engage learners and facilitate academic progress. 

  • Monitor student progress, offer timely feedback, and provide additional support when necessary. 

Manage Scholars' Testing Needs: 

  • Administer and proctor tests and assessments, ensuring fairness and security. 

  • Maintain accurate records of student test scores and performance data. 

  • Analyze assessment results to identify areas for improvement and devise targeted intervention strategies. 

  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure consistent evaluation of student progress. 

Provide Documentation of Course Completion: 

  • Maintain precise records of student attendance, assignments, and grades. 

  • Prepare progress reports and report cards promptly. 

  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding scholar progress and areas for improvement. 

  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences to discuss academic performance and growth opportunities. 

Develop Activities and Opportunities for Life Skills Growth: 

  • Integrate life skills education into the curriculum to support holistic development. 

  • Design and facilitate activities promoting critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills. 

  • Partner with community organizations to offer real-world experiences and skill-building opportunities. 

  • Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment promoting respect, empathy, and personal growth. 

Special Education/Intervention Specialist Skills Set: 

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities. 

  • Assess and monitor students' progress across academic, social, and emotional domains. 

  • Adapt instructional materials and techniques to meet students' learning styles and abilities. 

  • Provide direct instruction in academic subjects, life skills, and social skills. 

  • Collaborate with general education teachers and support staff to ensure the inclusion and integration of students with disabilities. 

  • Utilize assistive technology and other resources to enhance student learning and independence. 

  • Maintain accurate records of students' IEPs, progress, and interventions. 

  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to provide updates and address concerns. 

  • Collaborate with professionals such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, and psychologists to offer comprehensive support. 

  • Attend IEP meetings, staff meetings, professional development sessions, and parent-teacher conferences as required. 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in special education or a related field. 

  • State teaching certification or licensure in the relevant subject area. 

  • Previous experience in teaching or related educational roles, preferably in a K-12 setting. 

  • Strong knowledge of subject area curriculum and instructional strategies. 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 

  • Ability to manage classroom dynamics and maintain discipline. 

  • Proficiency in instructional technology and relevant software applications. 

  • Understanding of assessment principles and data analysis for instructional planning. 

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
